On Sunday at Chase Field, the Los Angeles Dodgers completed a ten-game road trip with a 7-to-1 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts homered. Tony Gonsolin was brilliant for five innings. Jack Dreyer, Ben Casparius, Tanner Scott, and Matt Sauer were brilliant in relief.
Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman produced a run in the first.
Tony Gonsolin allowed a two-out single in the first and a walk. Gonsolin struck out the last batter.
Andy Pages singled to open the second and stole second. The Dodgers left Pages.
Gonsolin was perfect in the second.
In the third, Freddie Freeman doubled with two outs, and Will Smith walked. The Dodgers stranded the runners.
With two outs in the third, Gonsolin allowed two singles but nothing else.
With an out in the fourth, Michael Conforto doubled. The Dodgers stranded him.
Gonsolin was perfect in the fourth.
Shohei Ohtani opened the fifth with a single, and Mookie Betts had a double, moving Ohtani to third. Freeman’s sacrifice fly scored Ohtani and moved Betts to third. Will Smith singled in Betts. Smith was caught stealing. Max Muncy walked. The Dodgers didn’t score any more.
Gonsolin was brilliant in the fifth despite issuing a walk.
To start the sixth, Conforto singled, and Hyeseong Kim singled, moving Conforto to third. Ohtani singled in Conforto. Ohtani was caught stealing. T8
Jack Dreyer relieved Gonsolin in the sixth. With two outs, Dreyer allowed a single. Dave Roberts relieved Dreyer with Ben Casparius, who retired the last batter of the inning on a fabulous defensive play by Muncy.
Freeman blasted a solo home run into the pool with an out in the seventh.
Casparius continued pitching in the seventh and, with an out, allowed a single. He allowed a run-scoring double. He retired the last batter.
With two outs in the eighth, pinch-hitting for Kim, Miguel Rojas singled and was balked to second and third. The Dodgers stranded him.
Tanner Scott relieved Casparius in the eighth with a perfect inning.
In the ninth, Betts homered with an out. Freeman singled and was balked to second. Smith’s double scored Freeman. Pages singled in Smith. Kiké Hernández singled Pages to second.
Matt Sauer relieved Scott in the ninth with a perfect frame.
