Andy Pages was named a co-National League Player of the Week. After a slow start to the 2025 season, Pages became an offensive force at the bottom of the Dodger lineup. At the first of this season, many pundits, including me, criticized Pages for his poor defense in center field, but Pages has improved.

From Monday, April 21 to Sunday, April 27, 2025, Pages hit .650 with 3 home runs, 6 RBI, and scored 5 runs. He understands the importance of producing in the ninth spot in the Dodger lineup, just ahead of Shohei Ohtani. While he didn’t swing at balls out of the strike zone, he is more aggressive than he was at the beginning of this season.

Pages should be a major league right fielder, but the Dodgers have Teoscar Hernández there. During spring training, Pages worked hard to learn how to play center field. Yes, he has made errors, costing the Dodgers runs. Many Dodger pundits and fans criticized Pages unmercifully. This 24-year-old Cuban kid was victimized by the nastiness of social media and impatience of this time in our society. Most media outlets chase headlines and readers.

To Pages’ credit, he ignored the criticism and continued working on his defense. Frequently, he steals possible home runs from the opposition. He is learning when to charge and when not to charge the ball. It’s delightful to watch Pages mature as a center fielder. In the minor leagues, he was a streaky hitter, and if he can limit the slumps, Pages will be a great major leaguer.
